Fat Transfer to Buttocks

Advances in medical science have not left the field of aesthetic medicine behind. Numerous strides are also being taken in the field and plastic surgeons are constantly discovering new ways to turn good into perfect. Butt augmentation has actually been around for a while but it is usually done via the injection of synthetic materials into the body. Earlier surgeons have experimented with fat transfer but the survival of the transferred fat cells was a major concern. The new techniques developed have, however, made it possible to carry out the fat transfer and ensure the transferred cells have a good survival rate.

This technique has been applied for a fat transfer to the buttocks or Brazilian Butt Lift as It is more commonly known. Fat from your own body is taken from sites where it is in excess or where it is unwanted and transferred to your buttocks in order to give you a fuller, rounder behind. Some of the advantages of transferring your own fat tissues include

  • No risk of allergic reactions.
  • Larger volume of fat can be transferred at a cost-effective rate when compared with synthetic fillers.
  • The fat transfer lasts longer than fillers.
  • The procedure carries low risk.

Who are the candidates for a Brazilian Butt Lift?

As long as you are healthy, have excess fat in some parts of your body, and hold realistic expectations about the procedure, you are eligible for a fat transfer to the buttocks. The operation could even serve the double function of helping you improve your behind while still helping you get rid of some unwanted fat.

The procedure

Fat transfer to buttock involves harvesting fat from sites where it is in abundance such as your abdomen or thighs. The site from which the fat is harvested is known as the donor site. Tumescent anesthesia is employed to numb the donor site and your buttocks. The fat is then harvested via a process known as tumescent liposuction. The harvested fat is purified before it is transferred to the receptor site. The survival rate of the fat cells at the receptor site greatly depends on the technique used. For some patients, excess fat can be harvested in large amounts and then preserved till when it would be needed.

Recovering from fat transfer to buttocks

Fat transfer to buttocks does not require any incisions so recovery time is very short. Patients can go about their normal lives the next morning. You may however, want to avoid sports or physical activities that would place a strain on the augmented region.

What to expect

You can expect fuller, rounder hips that would be obvious almost immediately after the surgery. It may take a week or more for the full shape of your buttocks to appear. Fat transfer gives long lasting results and you would not be in need of another procedure for a long time. As long as you are doing it to make yourself happy, you are good to go. This is quite important as with all other plastic surgery procedures. It is important to ascertain that the new shape is what you really want and you are not doing it because of pressure from someone or the society.
